tenon's capsule
Aug. 19th, 2005 01:43 amFar too much trotting around and giving brief talks about "what we do here" today. Okay, better than actually having to take part in all the interviewing, but still, I'd rather have been working.
Today's fact; the Tenon's (or tenons) capsule is a layer of slick muscle that lies between the globe of the eye and the bony orbit. Muscles and nerves are tunnelled through it to reach the eye, and remaining space is filled up with fatty tissue. (Had a question about "sub-tenons injection" and needed to research what the heck "tenons" was in order to answer it. Unfortunately, it was something that got left out of most diagrams of the anatomy of the eye, because strictly speaking it's not part of the eye itself, and was otherwise considered so basic that hardly anyone bothered to define it.)
Bought a train ticket today for London for a trip up there on the second Saturday in November, booking particular train times. It's a bit annoying to be so circumscribed and book so early, but it makes the ticket considerably cheaper. I'll think of it as a pre-birthday treat.

When the spiritual teacher and his disciples began their evening meditation, the cat who lived in the monastery made such noise that it distracted them. So the teacher ordered that the cat be tied up during the evening practice. Years later, when the teacher died, the cat continued to be tied up during the meditation session. And when the cat eventually died, another cat was brought to the monastery and tied up. Centuries later, learned descendants of the spiritual teacher wrote scholarly treatises about the religious significance of tying up a cat for meditation practice.
