sighing over daydreams

The problem with so much as looking at photos of ball-jointed dolls is that one lusts after them. Never mind the fact that I am probably not the sort to spend ages dressing them or looking at them (though I suppose I could make jewellery for them - is there a market for seed bead bondage gear for BJDs?) and so on and so forth. They're just so darned pretty.

(But then I remind myself that buying a good one would probably cost about as much, if not more, as an iPad, which would be more useful anyhow, and I've already decided that I'm not affording one of those for the moment at least, so down, girl. Smack nose. Behave. Etc.)

Otherwise: work is busy, the sky is grey, the weather is close, and I am apparently running a temperature, though the weather is dubious enough that I was having to check with a coworker whether it was the general heat or just me. But I'm functional enough for work, so . . . well, roll on the weekend.

Must decide what I'm doing about Yaoi-con.

Currently prowling the Tomb-colonies in Venderbight in Echo Bazaar in search of clues to my Nemesis. It's tremendously atmospheric. Excellent writing.

What is the Correspondence?

They say it's the letters that Helen wrote to Menelaus in the years of her imprisonment. They say it's the letters Raffles wrote about the Cat that never were published. They say it's the last accounts of the last days of the Third City, strung in beads on cord in a code no-one living understands...

A good doll, new, with eyes, hair, clothes, etc. could easily run you twice the cost of the least expensive iPad.

They largely creep me out, but there are indeed some lovely ones, like, say, this not incredibly overpriced beauty: http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1301463610

ETA: I take back about him being reasonably priced. If you wanted him as pictured, he was $985.

A co-worker sent me that link a while ago--isn't that doll amazing?

Remember, if you get an iPad, there is probably an App for virtual dolls! ...and my kid probably has six or seven of them and can tell you which ones are most fun. (The Yoo Sports app seems cute.)

That said, it is true that doing beadwork for virtual dolls is a bit... unlikely to work out well.

That said, I suppose you could always make some seed bead bondage gear for Yaoicon and see how well it sold... >_>

Do they have virtual seed bead bondage gear?

Not on any of the apps that my kid has found, that I know of!

is there a market for seed bead bondage gear for BJDs?

I would say yes. Check eBay sometime and do a search for "super dollfie" or "BJD" and see what turns up--there's some very nice stuff being made for dolls, and also some craptacular stuff (as will happen with handcrafting).

One of the only reasons I go to Comiket anymore is to go there the day the folks who sell doll jewelry, clothing, etc. will be there. There's some seriously amazing stuff offered, usually at very reasonable prices.

If you want I will send you a link to my Flickr account with photos of my BJDs on it. :)

Check out the sets Willow, Raven, Kai, Wray and Lagla. And of course you're welcome to look at anything at all in there. :) My photos aren't anything to write home about, but I still enjoy taking them.

Oh, those necklaces are wonderful! You have an Etsy (or similar) account, don't you? You should try selling some of those.

I have a human-sized beaded bracelet that one of my dolls wears as a doubled necklace or a belt. It's green beads with silvery leaf beads.

Yeah, I would say the only potential obstacle would be finding the right scale.

Mmm, yes. I wonder if they make them for American Girl dolls.

Good luck!

OH. I didn't know they did such lovely work with BJDs these days!
