the cold does bother me, actually
Jan. 5th, 2016 01:58 amWork today was, um, enlivened by the fact that the building's heating was on the fritz. Apparently some of the boilers are out of order. Most of us were sitting round in gloves, shawls, or coats as the day progressed, and the building's higher floors were even colder. By about four pm they'd brought in some portable heaters, which made things a bit more tolerable, and they promise to have them running until the engineers have sorted things out.
The fact that they aren't just saying "and the engineers will have sorted things out by tomorrow" is not desperately reassuring. I've made a deal with a coworker who gets into work before I do that if it's as cold tomorrow, she'll email me before I set off, and I'll bring in a couple of quilts...
To be fair, higher up did send round a message that we could go and work in one of the other work buildings (ie, one with heating) if there was a spare desk there. Since none of us felt like going the rounds begging for a spare desk, carrying our laptops and all our books with us, we sat where we were. And drank lots of hot drinks.
(Oh, and apparently it was 15-16 degrees C, which makes it 59-61 degrees F, if I'm doing the mental maths correctly. Maybe not that cold, but we were sitting still.)
