I can't help but be tempted by a Japanese computer game (AnimaMundi) that purports to include Saint-Germain, the Black Tulip, Francis Dashwood, Gennai Hiraga, and Mephistopheles as characters. Very pretty ones, too. However, my lack of comprehension of the language would probably scupper all the good bits.

Good day today. Meetings tomorrow. Hopefully not overly long ones.

Drabble-writing is a nice change from the longer stuff. I'm now suffering from the urge to write more Holmes pastiches, possibly with crossovers. It's very hard to get Watson's style into just 100 words.

It's Dark in Here

I am writing these poems
From inside a lion,
And it's rather dark in here.
So please excuse the handwriting
Which may not be too clear.
But this afternoon by the lion's cage
I'm afraid I got too near.
And I'm writing these lines
From inside a lion,
And it's rather dark in here.

. . . Tatsumi, from Yami no Matsuei . . .

Tatsumi is used to the sound of weeping. He learned it long ago, in a hundred different variations, and he learned his own helplessness every time he tried to stop those tears.

He could burn in rage against the sorrow, against the thick, gulping sobs of hopelessness and despair, but it does no good. Instead he freezes, he adjusts his glasses, and he steps away.

Better for everyone that way, really.

He keeps his kindnesses deliberate and polite, within the bounds of courtesy. He keeps his judgments and his cruelties the same way.

Much safer for everyone that way.

Really.
