Feeling much better today. Slept in shamefully and did very little.

So we passed days, and weeks, and miles, and a great many people one could see were basically decent and kind, had the impulse to hospitality, but could not overcome the fear that we were the blood that taints blood by its touch, the sucker pitch thrown by the gods to trap the weak and unworthy.

Not "we", of course. The three of them. I stood apart, and everyone knew it; people would throw stones at the blind man and explain to me in great and precise detail why they knew the gods wanted the stones thrown, about the tainted blood. About half would be equally clear that their names were not to appear in the newspaper; the other half would spell their names carefully, so I would get them exactly right.
