serendipity (and alcohol)
Jul. 1st, 2012 01:50 amPhoned home tonight to wish father a belated-by-a-day happy birthday. (I texted him yesterday. The message was sent.) I carefully timed the phone call for after the Tour de France recap on the television. My parents appreciated this.
Weatherwise, the day was alternating between beautiful sunshine and sudden showers, but I do realise that this is much better than heatwaves or storms and loss of power, so I will try not to complain too much.
Have new bed mattress scheduled to arrive on Monday. I'm torn between hoovering the flat tomorrow (to make sure all is clean for when the movers arrive with the mattress) or leaving it till after the mattress is delivered (on the grounds that changing a mattress is probably going to involve some distribution of dust and fluff). Decisions, decisions.
Also, while poking around Hebden Bridge today (a neighbouring town) I wandered into a wine-and-cheese shop (as one does) and noted a bottle of sweet wine on the shelf called Elysium. My Kage Baker reflex (there's a wine called Black Elysium in her Company books) kicked in, assisted by my sweet tooth, and I picked it up and look forward to trying it at some point. It was an impulse. I have impulses.
(Actually, here's the wine - http://www.quadywinery.com/elysium.html - and looking at the list of awards, I might have actually done quite well. Heh.)
