A nation mourns: The Great British Bake-Off (tv programme) is to be transferred from the BBC to Channel Four. This is actually more serious than it sounds: it means that the programme will now have advertising breaks. (There are no ad breaks on the BBC.)

Truly we have had the circuses (the Olympics) and now we weep over the bread.

(Okay, I admit it. I watch it too. It's entertaining. Though it's more a case of "if I have the television on at the time and am looking for something to idly watch while knitting/sewing" than "deliberately turn on television because it's about to be GBBO".)
