We Don't Need No Steenking Titles
Aug. 11th, 2002 11:03 pmA quiet day: my parents up to London to see my sister for her birthday, me at home and being lazy. Slept in, check. Had late lunch, check. Had long bath, check. Scrubbed out bathrooms (sinks/bath/shower/loo), alas, check. Did ironing, alas, check.
On the other hand, I had a very pleasant surprise. I had my second season Saiyuki DVD on while doing the ironing, and most of that season, so far, has been enjoyable but not as good as the first season. This is probably -- well, this is almost certainly -- because it's a whole new plotline from the manga, hastily devised because there wasn't enough new stuff in the manga to justify/fill an entire new season, in a way that will doubtless be familiar to many of those who enjoy manga and anime.
And then, bang. I suddenly hit a pair of episodes taken directly from the Saiyuki Gaiden manga, aka "what happened 500 years ago". And presto, the dialogue is nice and sharp, the art's yummy, the action's crisp, and the contrast is painfully vital between that and the surrounding material.
(Okay, okay. And the episode directly beforehand, with Homura kidnapping Goku and attempting to convince the kid to join him, had some of the most surtext moments I have seen since Yami no Matsuei. Chain-fondling, my oh my. (Those who have seen it will know what I mean: those who haven't, I couldn't put it clearly enough to.)
Anyhow. Sorted out last night's print job -- I wish that printers didn't deliver the stuff sorted back to front. Wrote covering letter. Must buy envelopes tomorrow. I am quite aware that I'm getting nerves about this because actually doing it means actually getting a result, and possibly a bad result. Knowing this fact doesn't make it any easier.
