Kyouraku is always careful when eating food around Ukitake.
This is because Ukitake steals it. Steals it without meaning to, and quite without thinking about it, but if Kyouraku leaves his plate too close to where Ukitake is sitting, the plate empties. Fast.
It goes back to the days at the Academy, when Ukitake was the one who always emptied his plate first and looked round hopefully for seconds or leftovers.
This, Kyouraku has explained to his Nanao-chan, is why he always drinks throughout the meal, and lets poor famished Jyuushirou have all the food he wants.
Nanao isn't convinced.
