uninspired
Apr. 19th, 2012 01:44 amSo apparently the slogan for the upcoming Olympic Games is, "Inspire a generation."
As slogans go, I think it's right up there with, "People of Panem, we fight, we dare, we end our hunger for justice!" from Suzanne Collins' Mockingjay. (The third in the Hunger Games trilogy.)
I suppose perhaps I should be more excited that the Olympics is taking place here in Great Britain, but frankly it's all going to be happening down south, and I'm not planning to go anywhere near it, or do anything other than watch it on television. And even more frankly, all the somewhat desperate publicity and attempted inciting of patriotism just makes me flinch away in a "how very embarrassing" reflex. It's like the patriotic fabrics that have started to show up in the haberdashers' in an attempt to get people to make stuff out of them for the Jubilee and whatnot, which are doing about as well as similar ones did during that royal wedding business. (While I was not exactly keeping an eye on how well they sold, the way that said previous royal wedding fabrics are now showing up in the reduced price section speaks for itself.)
I don't know. I realise that intentions are good. I'm just not impressed.
---
I'm not a millionaire but I'm very comfortable doing what I do, and I'm more productive now than I was in my mid-20s. It's all down to functionality eventually. If you're functional it doesn't matter if you're mad.
