can you hear singing?
May. 17th, 2012 01:24 amWe were having a multi-team meeting at work today, in a largish meeting room that looks out over the nearby River Aire, on the second floor. The wind is whistling merrily outside. It sounds almost like singing.
Then one of the other team members asks, "Can you hear singing?"
It must be the wind, we reassure her.
Then we start hearing church bells.
And then it clicks for me. The last couple of evenings, when walking home I've noticed the setup going on for a local "cultural Olympiad" event in the nearby area called the Dark Arches, which is a set of tunnels that goes under the railway line and across the river there. They've got interesting lighting effects, and on Tuesday night I'd heard them trying out some of the sound installation, involving music. And church bells.
And now that I look out at the view over the river next door, geographically I can work out that the tunnels feeding into the Dark Arches area are directly facing the side of the building where the meeting room is. They must have been testing some of the sound aspects, and the tunnels funnelled them straight at us.
Really rather cool, when you think about it. Even if it did disrupt the meeting a bit.
The music/light installation is going to be running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. I must drop by and check it out. Probably on the Friday, since it's Quilts UK on the Saturday and that is going to take up all day. And be a lot of fun. :)

'Mark - Mark Ingestrie!' shrieked Johanna, the moment she glanced at the person alluded to.
'Johanna!'
In another moment she was in his arms, and clasped to his heart.
'Oh, Mark, Mark - you are not dead.'
'No, no - I never was. And you, Johanna, are not in love with a fellow, in military undress, you met in the Temple.'
'No, no, I never was.'
