ah, sweet weekend
Jan. 30th, 2016 03:47 amA bit of amusement for Library fans:

(Written before Christmas, only just been put up there by them.)
At the stage in knitting a new scarf where I'm trying to guesstimate how far the yarn I've got will go, and therefore how wide I can cast on, if there's to be enough yarn left to make it long enough. It's one of those fiddly calculations, as it's very annoying to end up with a thin but hugely long scarf, and realise at that point that it could have been a bit wider and still be long enough. But it's also very annoying to start it off too wide, have it end up too short, and then need to rip it all back and start again... decisions, decisions.
---
“Kai,” Irene said firmly, and sipped her tea. “Talk.”
Kai sighed. “Oh, very well. Her majesty’s personal name is Ya Yu, but neither of us is ever likely to have the opportunity to use it. The Queen of the Southern Lands has an excellent reputation for fairness and for a sympathetic attitude towards her subordinates. In practice, I think that means that she gives them plenty of rope if anything goes wrong before expecting them to hang themselves with it. She’s only ever had to make a direct move herself against the Fae twice, and each time it was very decisive.”
“As in there was nothing left of those Fae?” Irene said, hoping against hope that the Queen wasn’t as wholesale as some other dragons she’d met.
Kai avoided her eyes. “As in there was nothing left of those worlds afterwards. It was very conducive to peace and good order.”
