I'm always nervous when trying new recipes, and today was no exception. However, the chicken tama rice worked quite nicely, and my parents cleared their plates, and fell asleep after supper in front of the television. It wasn't quite as nice as the version I had at Wagamama's, but I now have permission to try it again. :)
When I was younger (yes, yes, I know, I'm hardly that old, but it's astonishing how distant it looks from here) I would never have conceived finding a recipe so important, or plotting it, or spending more than brief time and effort on it, or being so concerned about the opinions of other eaters, or . . . or any of it, really.
I think I prefer being this way. The food's better. The appreciation, too.
(And yes, large amounts of today were spent in finding things that would keep me thoroughly occupied, from work to cookery to writing. I would like to view this as a sensible course of action. Unfortunately, I can only disconnect my brain's operating system and functioning timetable for a while. Probably linked to the "sense of the ridiculous" function.)
Tired. Yesterday is calling in payment. If my brain does have an OS, the Blue Screen of Death is flashing in the background. Mmmm. Sleeping in is not a new pleasure; tht's something that any child learns to value right from the point where they're getting up in time to go to school. The memories of boarding school and the 7am bell for 7.30am breakfast . . . ah, and the memories of blissful lying in on Sunday mornings.
