Mmm. Tolerable day, work okay, all improved by arriving home to see my table and cutlery had arrived as per schedule. Opened them up to check on them and show them off to my parents, who were pleasantly impressed. (I think they were going to be polite about it and not insult my taste even if they hadn't liked them, but they did like them.) Excellent.

Second quote for removal arrived in the post. Slightly cheaper than previous one, though still around 950 pounds. A 2-day move; they pack my stuff on the first day pm, do the drive second day am, arrive second day pm. So if I were to be around for the packing, then catch a late train up to Leeds that evening, and arrange to see the estate agent the next morning and get the keys and do any emergency cleaning before the removal guys arrive. Not to mention electricity, phone, tv, broadband, etc.

Cleared out my old audio tape collection today, disposing of a lot of stuff which I now had on CD as well. My room would be strangely clean and tidy (gaze in mirror at yore strange unatural beauty) were it not that it's now filling up with stuff for the Move, so I can keep it all in one place.

Adventure

It is the thing you do not find at home,
At least if you believe it isn't there;
All those who lack the fortitude to roam
Are sure they'd find it if they went somewhere:
That usurpers are balanced for a fall,
And flesh-devouring monsters stalk the night,
Or vile Vizirs hold princesses in thrall --
And who can truly say that isn't right?
The people you recall as having freed
The lovely princedom from its uncrowned heads
Were doubtless once seen differently -- indeed,
They likely were considered bloody Reds.
Whether things go from bad to best or worse
Is mostly up to those who write the verse.

I'm very proud of the Independent newspaper today.

They don't have anything about Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles on the front page. (Not till page 5, in fact.)

They actually have news instead. Good for them

To amuse; some translated sections from the expanded writeup of Jean-Luc, Archangel of Protection, from the French rpg In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas that eventually got translated/rewritten to become In Nomine. Probably not of great interest to those who aren't into either of those games. All infelicities of style are due to my translation.
