bad, good, excellent
May. 26th, 2005 01:56 amAnnoying points about today; another three-hour meeting, plus being generally outvoted on a resolution to a particular query. However, did apologise politely after long wrangle over query, at which point all the others agreed that it was important for us to defend our points of view until the matter was resolved, and things ended on a cheerful note. (I like to make sure that if I do get into heavy arguments over particular query resolutions, that I then apologise for the length of the argument or at least try to be mollifying _somehow_ afterwards, so that things don't end on a sour note or sit and fester. We spend a lot of time discussing queries; I don't want to develop long-term issues or aggravations.)
Good points; received parcel from shiny_monkey, thank you very much indeed! And received letter from employer stating that my expenses were in the process of being paid and that the cash should hit my account within the next day or so. While not actually financially embarrassed at the moment, having that cushion restored to my account will make me a great deal more comfortable.
Have set time and place to catch up with Corin and Mozam on Saturday week. Must see if I can buy train ticket early and thus save significant amount of money. (Insert usual complaints about train fares here.)
Dramatic moment of the day was the power cut this morning which not only affected the building that I work in, but also the nearby station (trains were still functioning but departure boards, lights, and shop tills were all out of action) and nearby shops. Very annoying; people with laptops were able to keep on working off the battery, but people like me on the main system were stuck. Luckily the meeting coincided with most of it, so it could have been worse, and the fact that we were in a small room without air conditioning was comparatively minor. (At least we'd prebooked one of the meeting rooms with _windows_ . . .)

The Sick Rose
O Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
