heart-warming
Oct. 21st, 2007 01:51 amHave done various bits of shopping and think that I now have most of what I need under control. Things yet to possibly pick up include an adapter (for American plugs), a folder of a size suitable to hold prints and transport them safely (in case I get some at Yaoicon, which I have done for the last few years, so . . .) and, um, probably something else I haven't thought of yet.
Also, I need to book a taxi for Thursday morning to the station.
And tomorrow I must clean.
Nervous as hell. Excited as hell. Whee.
I was in the local gaming/comic shop today, and mentioned that I was going to Yaoicon. The two guys behind the counter (both of whom are hetero, to the best of my knowledge) expressed a strong approval of yaoi. Or at least, of the sale of yaoi, which was not hurting their profits at all -- there were a number of translated yaoi manga on the shelves. Feeling the need to go into the matter further, one of them said that he was all in favour of women getting the stuff they wanted to read (since men already had access to all the stuff they wanted, porn implied), while the other mentioned that while he didn't actually read the stuff himself, he understood that it was actually relationship-based/heavy and involved emotional currents, rather than simply bump-and-grind-and-moan, and he thought that was cool.
I found it rather heartwarming, actually.

"Yes," Sirius said soberly. "It was a shock when my parents got married. You see, so much of the wizarding world is homosexual as a natural way of life, that heterosexual pairings are considered extraordinary. People like the Weasleys are viewed as rather odd, Harry. Don't worry, I'm sure nobody will look down on you for having one of them as a friend. But it's not something that I've ever been interested in. I've always been happy to be a perfectly normal young man, with Remus, and with James -- though I'm afraid James got a little strange and went and married a woman, so let's not talk about James too much . . ."
