Christmas lunch
Dec. 20th, 2007 02:19 amWell, that's a relief.
Today was scheduled Secret Santa and Work Christmas Lunch. Which both went very smoothly. I am so relieved, given that I was organising both. The restaurant turned out to be good (I'd heard it was, but one always worries) and we weren't turned away at the door or told that they'd lost our reservations, or anything that paranoia suggested.
The big fly in the ointment was that three of the nine of us who were scheduled for the Santa and the Lunch were off ill. (There is a cold going around. I'm currently praying that I don't get it in time for Christmas.) Which cut down on the numbers and meant that some of the gifts for the Santa weren't present or couldn't be opened there and then. Still. The restaurant gave us back the deposit for the three who didn't make it there (possibly an error on their part, but I'm not complaining!), which was good.
Work this afternoon was very subdued. Mainly because we were all trying not to fall asleep.

Long Winter Night
It's all I think of: of when I was young,
reading books in the empty temple hall -
refilling the lamp again and again with oil,
never lamenting the long winter night.
