quilts, Dredd, and train lines

Finished sewing a baby quilt for a coworker's son while watching the Dredd movie (thus infusing quilt with manly vibes, no doubt, as well as enjoying the movie myself). The movie really was excellent. Not only good in itself, but I think it caught a reasonable amount of the original comic's ... mood? Theme? Feel? Character? It certainly didn't make me say at any point, "No, that isn't Judge Dredd," which is a step forward from the previous attempt.

I see that new plans for the HS2 high speed rail line involve connections from London to Birmingham and up to Leeds. While I can't deny that faster journeys would be nice, I'm not sure that it's really as necessary as a lot of other things which could be done instead, or even justifiable for the areas it would be built over. Hm.
