sei bereit
Feb. 12th, 2014 01:51 amA big team-wide exterior audit approaches with unhelpful speed. It's on Thursday and Friday this week, so I can't see anyone relaxing till it's over. Technically I know that my own area is under control (I think, I hope) and organised, as is everyone else's, but in practice we have all the calm and placidity of a group of pupils due to be called to the teacher's office after someone burned down the East Wing last night.
(To quote Searle and St Trinians.)
We did have a bit of rain today, though not to the extent that the rest of the country's been getting it, thank goodness. It was a sort of mingled sleet/snow/rain, and I got it in the face on the way home. I was very glad to get home and shut the door and turn up the radiators.
I've just found out that "Sei bereit," which is what the vampires are singing in the background of one number in the Tanz der Vampire musical that I'm listening to again, actually means, "Be prepared". I feel a bit let down. "Sei bereit," sounded tremendously atmospheric. "Be prepared," makes me think of Boy Scouts. If not quite on the Tom Lehrer level.
