tree up again
Dec. 17th, 2004 01:05 amNew Christmas tree up; not as big as previous one, but still moderately imposing. Fingers crossed it stays up.
Work was quite interesting today. I wouldn't mind it being a tiny bit less busy, but it was interesting.
At least I know what I'll be doing at lunch tomorrow. Using my lunch break to stand in a queue at the post office with my more local parcels.
On rereading the Silmarillion, I can see where a fair amount of my pseudo-mythic prose borrows its style from. Ah well, I'd rather be imitating good stuff than David Eddings. (Not that I don't get some amusement from Eddings. But you know what I mean.)
---
Strugnell's Sonnets (iv)
Not only marble, but the plastic toys
From cornflake packets will outlive this rhyme
I can't immortalize you, love - our joys
Will lie unnoticed in the vault of time.
When Mrs. Thatcher has been cast in bronze
And her administration is a page
In some O-Level text-book, when the dons
Have analysed the story of our age,
When travel firms sell tours of outer space
When aeroplanes take off without a sound
And Tulse Hill has become a trendy place
And upper Norwood's on the underground
Your beauty and my name will be forgotten -
My love is true, but all my verse is rotten.
