hob clean

Okay. My hob top and the surfaces of the rings are not perfect, but they are much better than they were. Another scrubdown like that in a week or two, and then keeping on doing it regularly, should keep the thing reasonably clean, if not quite sparkling.

What else . . . ah. Yes. Since I plan to be away Thursday - Sunday (visiting Guernsey, then home) I must take care when I do my shopping tomorrow that I don't buy too much perishable stuff. Right.

The Doctor Who episode this evening (Father's Day) was, shall we say, not too unpredictable (though there was at least one big shock moment). But . . . well, it made me cry. Well played by the cast. Good writing by the writer (Paul Cornell, so that's not really surprising).

certain maxims of archy

[...]

i once heard the survivors
of a colony of ants
that had been partially
obliterated by a cow s foot
seriously debating
the intention of the gods
towards their civilization

[...]

there is always
something to be thankful
for you would not
think that a cockroach
had much ground
for optimism
but as the fishing season
opens up i grow
more and more
cheerful at the thought
that nobody ever got
the notion of using
cockroaches for bait

It made me cry also -- even though I could see it coming.

I was commenting to Rob that they've really made this series feel so much like "Sapphire and Steel" in some ways.

Reasonably clean is fine and dandy IMO. No one's expecting the Queen over for tea, as my mother says. =)

Ach, and in our house that would have involved my paternal grandmother "dropping by" for tea. I'd say that was equivalent to the Queen dropping by, but frankly, the Queen would be nicer, and not as picky.

(sob) Or my real grandmother, who has never forgiven me for running off to an uncivilised country ^^

Terrifically sad. Couple of surprises. And hey, good job of saying "this is why there WAS a first law." Honestly, this new series hasn't disappointed yet (well, the WW3 two-part story was pretty daft, but the second part was an improvement over the first.)
