Had a cute idea. Imagine retelling the Star Wars trilogy (leaving out the Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones for the moment) as a Chinese mythic legend, along the lines of Journey to the West... Jedi get to be Taoist immortals and wizards, Sith Lords are demons or Taoists who have strayed from the path, the planets are separate kingdoms, the whole Senate/democracy thing was a council of the kings of those kingdoms which reported to the Jade Emperor, etc . . .
Then they saw the Young Impetuous Male Immortal. He was seated drinking wine with his companion the Young Beastly Lord, a bear-spirit from the slopes of the Vulture Peak, who had gained immortality and human speech by listening to the Buddha's teachings. The Young Impetuous Male Immortal bore a golden bow across his back, from which he could shoot a hundred arrows of fire within the time that it takes for a gnat to brush its legs together. His mount was the Falcon of a Thousand Years, a great bird whose wingfeathers were of silver and whose beak and claws were of steel. He often rode on it between the kingdoms, seeking for wine and adventure, and many memorials had been posted against him.
(okay, a little dubious, but along those lines)
