I like my Holmes not to be a self-important incompetent druggie petifogging annoying leading-Watson-by-nose client-risking twit, thank you very much, unless the whole point of the story is that he is such a thing. Which this isn't.
OTOH, Richard E Grant was an excellent villain, and it is a pity that there's no way they'd use his voice for dubbing Tenpou Gensui (in Saiyuki).
