happiness is salmon teriyaki
Jun. 20th, 2003 11:41 pmPlaytesting tomorrow, and staying with friends overnight, so no more journal entries till Sunday, if that.
There's just something about salmon; the gorgeous richness, the flavour, the sheer undiluted sweep of . . . okay, so I exaggerate. I'm in a good mood. We tried having some sake with supper. I'm definitely in a good mood.

(for mjj)
If dragons were exotic, then God knows
(Or any Bodhisattva hereabout)
We'd be content to watch with prying nose
On all their goings in or comings out;
Whereas if they were normal -- us, indeed --
Mere mortals in their flesh (and scaly hide)
We'd claim to know them as the wind the reed,
The grass the plain, the sand, the halting tide.
And yet the rare and thrice-exotic kind
Require the basic understanding why
Or else, magnificent as we them find,
We lose our interest and will pass by.
So pass the classics and Confucian texts;
I want to know why they are having sex.

"...and any other reason why."
Date: 2003-06-20 06:25 pm (UTC)Or strip the willowbark or split the peach,
Is not a question that should trouble you
For long. The reasons lie in easy reach
Of understanding: hospitality,
Politeness, boredom, brotherly amor,
To work off stress or make the stubborn see
The error of their ways: and many more.
Here is the westerner's besetting sin,
Always and urgently to wonder why.
Best not to ask me, since you cannot win.
I'll answer Japanesely: ii ja nai?
(The other reason, equally as true,
I'll give you free: because I want them to.)

No point concerning what's inspired --
But, oh, the climax seems desired.)

In sundry and unlikely wise
Till Alps on Alps on Alps arise!)
