Hellaciously windy and wet this morning while walking to work. Umbrella plastered against my head and shoulders, trousers collecting far too much rain. Then an hour later the clouds were gone and the sky was a beautiful blue. Why could this not have happened an hour earlier?

Yes, yes, I know. That's how it always happens.

Sewed a very basic quilt top this evening after work and before supper. That's the easy and fun bit of the job. The actual quilting and binding is much less fun. This is why quilters often have spare quilt tops lying around waiting to be finished.

Yes, some people are piecers and some people are quilt-ers. I'm more of a piecer too.

Lots of people farm out the quilting and binding, but that has to get expensive. I've farmed out the quilting once on something I didn't know how to handle, it came back beautifully. The 3x3m one, I did by myself and swore never to do again.

I don't bother with umbrellas anymore...they either fall apart on you, or - if it's thunderstorming (as is typical here in 'ol Florida) - you may as well just put up a big bull's-eye over your head that says "LIGHTNING BLAST HERE". :p (There's a reason this state is known as the lightning capital of the world!)

Wintertime (for the States, that is) is actually the best time to be down here, weather-wise. It's not too cold, nor too hot (minus a few oddball exceptions here and there - we just had an unseasonable cold spell last week, for instance), and the storms are very far and few between. (Not that it will never storm; it can - I remember we got a storm severe enough to spawn tornado warnings last year at about this time - it's just that you're far more likely to run into one during the summer months. Hooray tropical air.)
