Planned cross-mapping training session for other team members today got cancelled due to a case of "all hands to the pump" on rewriting/updating other coding foundation course training material. A bit of a pity: I would have liked to spread the cross-mapping word. Oh well, needs must when there's a necessity.

I'm not sure what to make of the Budget. I don't like the look of it in general, but then I must admit that I am so anti- the current Government that they would have difficulty in convincing me that the sky was blue or that gravity was functioning. I realise that this may be a problem for me: after all, it is conceivable that they might get something right, or be correct about something, and then where would I be if I was distrusting everything they said? Not to mention that I have a nasty feeling that constant disbelief and suspicion is bad for the spirit. But it is very difficult to think that they will have actually got something right or put forward a Budget that will actually be good for the country.

And I see that the new companion for Doctor Who has been announced. She is young. And female. This is hardly new. Dare I hope that she will be from some time and place other than twenty-first-century Britain?

On a happier note, someone's put up a video on youtube which is a selection of old home video bits from my old boarding school -- Christ's Hospital -- turned into a bit of a music video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUMxZkIQ7bI&feature=youtu.be (The lace jabots that the girls wear in some of the earlier shots were a part of the uniform that was designed for the girls to wear when their branch rejoined the boy's branch, but which was rapidly phased out because (A) it didn't work, (b) nobody liked it, (c) it was an actively bad idea in chemistry and similar lessons. The girls ended up wearing plain bands like the boys, and were perfectly happy with it, and the lace jabots only got worn on special occasions.) Oh, nostalgia. And no, I'm not anywhere in it. I checked.

You Who Wronged

You who wronged a simple man
Bursting into laughter at the crime,
And kept a pack of fools around you
To mix good and evil, to blur the line,

Though everyone bowed down before you,
Saying virtue and wisdom lit your way,
Striking gold medals in your honor,
Glad to have survived another day,

Do not feel safe. The poet remembers.
You can kill one, but another is born.
The words are written down, the deed, the date.

And you’d have done better with a winter dawn,
A rope, and a branch bowed beneath your weight.
