I found myself watching the Disney Robin Hood this afternoon (while hand-sewing the binding on a quilt, and with nothing else particularly being worth watching on the television) and was delighted to discover a strong-willed, definite, firm, positive female character in it.

. . . no, it wasn't Maid Marian, it was her nurse/chaperone/maid the chicken, Lady Kluck.

Entertaining chase scenes, though.

Also most amused by the fact that all the heroes had American accents and all the villains had English accents. In Robin Hood. Yes. (Except Lady Kluck, who had a Scottish accent. Go Kluck.)

Oh boy, I used to watch RH over and over as a kid. One of my favorite Disneys! YES Lady Kluck is AWESOME - love that scene where she bulldozes everybody during the archery tournament! :D

As for the accents...everybody knows that Brits make the best villains. ;)

Go, go, Lady Kluck!

As for the accents, don'tcha know that Americans are a bunch of robber-hooligans who run around in the woods?

(I thought Sir Hiss had a more snakey accent, m'self... >_> )

He was pretty smart, for a snake... There's a plot idea! Lady Kluck reforms Sir Hiss! (hey, both their species lay eggs...)

Have you ever seen It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World? Terry-Thomas is *hilarious* as the Brit who soundly puts the uptight American businessman he's partnered with in his place! (Favorite quote: "I'll wager you anything you like - if American women stopped wearing brassieres, your whole national economy would collapse overnight!")

Kind of reminded of watching The Prince of Egypt and realizing that Moses should've figured out he was a Hebrew much earlier on. After all, he was the only person in the whole Egyptian royal family with an American accent....

I loved that movie as a kid! And Bedknobs and Broomsticks, too. Of course, I haven't seen either of them in ages and don't know how well they've held up.
