I like peaceful Saturdays

Lovely weather today.

... er, other stuff much as normal really. Shopped. Sewed. Wrote. Had wine with supper.

Managed to successfully change light bulb on sewing machine, thus being able to sew. Light bulb had previously gone.) While doing so I got to enjoy one of those traditional moments of "well, the sewing machine instructions say that after removing the screw I now pull the face plate off the machine, but it's not coming off when I pull gently, and I'm scared of pulling too hard in case I break something..."

(Spoilers: I managed to pull the face plate off, change the light bulb, and put the plate back on again. But you probably guessed that.)

As an american used to our relatively benign 120V systems, the prospect of messing with almost any electrical device in the UK or Europe fills me with trepidation. Even if said device is unplugged , separately grounded, and possibly has an 'Okay to Tinker' sign on it.

(Computers don't count, of course! *zot*)

This one wasn't that complicated. (And it was turned off and unplugged.) It was just a matter of "remove screw X, take off plate Y, change bulb".

It was more the eternal hardware issue of "how hard does 'pull off Y' mean that you should pull on it, if it won't come off easily?"

Go you!! I left mine burnt out and use a desk lamp instead. Perhaps I should address that ...

Having the light bulb working does make sewing with dark thread on dark fabric a bit less prone to error... or eyestrain.
