incandescensMy father's birthday went well. My presents (DVD of Gotterdamnerung (forget which conductor, but it was part of a set he wanted) and copy of An Instance of the Fingerpost) were appreciated. Doubly so, as my mother was casting thoughtful eyes at the book, and recommended that my father bring it along with him when they go on holiday to Greece shortly.
Also had a very pleasant moment when, in town, was exploring sale at HMV and ran across (among other boxed sets of opera) a version of La Belle Helene with a particular female singer which I knew he liked. I'd bought him the DVD for Christmas, when he'd expressed an interest in it. So I grabbed the CD boxed set on the spot (along with the Karajan recording of Die Zauberflote for myself) and he was very pleased to get it. Nice moment.
Also got some cream cakes for him and for my mother. Cinnamon apple cheesecake for myself. I'm rather enjoying this new habit of buying cakes for Saturday night dessert. We don't normally have desserts, so it adds a nice note of luxury to Saturdays, but also stops us from overdoing it.
Oh, and have now booked tickets for Minority Report on Thursday evening, so that should be good.
Am stalling somewhat on Japanese characters. Should probably go back and do serious revision on current 50 before trying to learn more. Sigh.
Note absence of grammar in tonight's entry. Could Metaxa brandy be to blame? Will this stop me drinking Metaxa in future? (No.)
Listening to Carole King album. While I can't say I'm totally addicted, it's pleasant background music. (Mylene Farmer's better, though.)
Wrote a sillyfic. Amused me. Amused April. Good.
