Spent a lot of the day coding various sorts of "accidental poisoning" disorders. This would be cases where someone has accidentally taken a poisonous substance, I hastily note, rather than any sort of deliberate poisoning, or self-inflicted poisoning, which have quite different external cause codes.

I couldn't help recognising some of the substances from previous crime fiction reading. But I decided not to go on about this to my coworkers at too much length. It might have ... worried them.

I always think of England as the birthplace of the detective novel (or maybe I mean Britain-- Conan Doyle was Scots, IIRC) and assumed that people there all read the detective classics- Sayers, Christie et al. Thus it's surely no surprise if you happened to know the effects of various strong poisons. Doesn't everyone?
