Wolcum Yule Weekend.

The weather has turned a bit cooler and was spitting rain earlier, no doubt in celebration of Wimbledon, the upcoming Tour de France, the upcoming Commonwealth Games, and so on. It has a week to clear up before the bicycles get here. I rather hope it does, as it would be nice for it to be in decent weather. (Even if authentic/traditional English weather would probably be less than decent.)

Have nearly finished copy-edit of book 1. With any luck, will clear it tomorrow, and can then get back to writing book 3. I think a violent argument will be involved. Also tarantulas. (Black widow spiders might be more immediately lethal, or even brown recluses, but there's just something about big hairy tarantulas...)

Alligators, she groans. Tarantulas. Why are there no fluffy kittens or gambolling pupies in your books?

I remember a field trip to UTx, and to a part of the biology section where they had tarantulas. They took one out, and were all, "It's furry like a kitten! Don't you want to pet it?"

I noped myself back to another section, separated by doors. NOPENOPENOPE DO NOT WANT TO PET THE GIANT FLUFFY SPIDER.

I remember a murder mystery set in India where the protag says something to the effect of 'anything up to four legs is my friend, anything more is *not*.' I suppose snakes don't come into this, being legless, but the rest of the scaly tribe gets included under friends, which is well um. (Mind, I think they were talking geckoes or something.)

I think some geckoes can look quite harmless and fragile. Non-poisonous, I think, which probably helps one's initial impressions.

All lizards are unheimlich to me. Like human-seeming robots: something distinctly amiss.

Well, Silver might keep dogs or cats, but they'd probably be Afghan hounds, or Persian or Siamese cats, or similar. And I'm sure that someone else has to do the grooming.

I'm sure that at least one of the dragon kings has a hunting pack. Hm...

Hm. Though I keep thinking sea kings must have killer dolphins, if dolphins weren't so civilized...

Killer orcas, perhaps. I hear they can be quite aggressive.
