I have a whole pile of rewriting to do on book 2. This will keep me busy, she says through gritted teeth, reminding herself that her editor is a nice person and that this is all an ultimately good and productive thing.

But oh, the porcupine reflex is hard to suppress.

Remember, emotional beats that you don't agree with may be negotiable. Or at least you might get a better understanding of what the editor is looking at/for and come up with an acceptable compromise!

I will bear this in mind. But there is also the fact that if she really doesn't get what I'm trying to get at after reading it, then I do need to do some rewriting.

Excellent! (And, as you say above, it might be that a bit of rewriting is needed -- but possibly not the rewriting that she asked for. Which is different!)
