I have no compunctions about the latter, especially when it produces neat pieces like [livejournal.com profile] archangelbeth's latest entry. Happy smile. (I realise repayment will be expected, and I am sure the universe will present suitable demands later, but, ah well.)

It is surprisingly easy and pleasant to relax with a three-and-a-half-year-old dozing in one's lap. Iolanthe is a sweet, sweet child. OTOH, watching her behaviour, and realising how little I remember of what I was saying or doing at three years old . . . well, I'm reluctant to ask my own mother about it, because of the answers I may well get.

Iolanthe, over my shoulder, demands that I "do more Gameboy". My tactic to distract her earlier ("look at the little monsters!") has worked too well.

Mmm. The sleep of desire accomplished is sweet to the soul. (And just think, once the legal editions of the DVDs reach the second season, we'll actually be able to read legible subordinates and understand some of those cryptic exchanges. "You are a shameful man!" cries Hakkai to Shien. Oh, for a better translation of that adjective.)

If the world is right and just, your mother would simply smile and say, "Making cute little sacrifices on your altar to the dark god Nyarlathotep, dear. How little Billy screamed!"

(grump) There isn't a better translation. English speakers stopped feeling shame or anything remotely connected to it somewhere after the first world war. I blame Hemingway for it, but then I always do. Can't remember the scene off-hand, but my guess is Hakkai is saying 'You, sir, know not the meaning of shame' as people are wont to do in anime. There's a whole bunch of words in Japanese that mean mean-spirited and small-souled and a stranger to honour. It's when highschool basketball players moan that they know not the meaning of shame ('ahh, hikyouuuu, ore nanka!!') that I think maybe Urdu would be easier.

unless of course it's the english dub...

then, Hakkai would probably be saying something like "Shien, that is some wack shit, dude. You are one stone cold m**erf**er" or something.

-.-;

talk about shameless.

(I can see Hakkai calling someone a brazen lout, for some reason)

That I can see, actually. Hakkai's one of those understated types for whom even 'brazen lout' might be going a little far. True, he does call someone a sekuhara jiisan, so he's not as well-spoken as all that. Somehow I hear him doing 'I really don't think that's a good idea, Dave.' (We won't mention the English dubs in present company, I think.)

(kindly) It's OK. I know the dub was traumatic and flashbacks will occur. You just have to get through them. Deep breathing helps. Ohmmmm.....

Oddly, it strikes me that the best word may be "small", which almost never means size these days.

(Still about size in my circle, with sexual innuendoes to make it worse.) I'd be pleased if small is making a comeback- a word's needed to describe that common spiritual state- but can one say 'Oh god I'm so small' or is it always used about somebody else?

(who mourns the passing of 'mean' to other things)

It is surprisingly easy and pleasant to have a two-year-old dozing in ones lap, too. *grin* Fun.

Cool about the Gameboy!! *grin*

Jet finds me at the computer and says, "Catch stars! Catch stars!"

Mmmm... about Saiyuki2. *grin* I've enjoying mine. THANKS for the introduction!!
