Is it ridiculous to feel so pleased that I found a nice little table/CD holder/music centre stand which is now full and occupied? It's the sort of wood that they call "black ash" when they're trying to sell you preassemblable items (which I rather think this was, once) and will look quite reasonable once I treat a couple of scratches with some black shoe polish. It's sturdy, it's just the right size, and it was just £10 from the local Oxfam secondhand furniture store.

My study is slowly but surely looking much tidier. CDs have been assimilated from various points on shelves to the new stand-thing, and will be assimilated from that into a CD box once I get one. Must also go through tape collection and discard stuff which I now have on CD.

I thought this would work, and it is working. It's not the deliberately "taking time off work to tidy stuff and rearrange room", it's the "taking time off work to relax, and finally growing so tired of state of room that I tidy and rearrange it."

Oh, and a box of French manga arrived this morning. Ban describes Hevn (though they're spelling her as Heaven so far) as "cette gonzesse". Nice choice of words.

That's not ridiculous at all. One of the things I think can mark adulthood is the aimingto have each piece be particularly handsome or distinctive in some way.

I see cette gonzesse and I think of cheese. I don't recognize "gonzesse" so all I can think of is "this stinky but no doubt tasty cheese."

While not entirely inappropriate as a translation, the more usually understood meaning is along the lines of "chick", "bird", or "doll". Definitely slang. "Miss Two Big Ones" would probably fit, too. ;)

Certainly I would not mock your French. ;) (I've just spent too much time reading rpgs and manga in French.)

Gonzesse translates approximately as "chick", "bird", "doll". That sort of level of slang, that sort of concept.
