principles
Mar. 9th, 2004 01:50 amGah. I become alert of an interesting-sounding job whose deadline for applications is Thursday the 11th. Feh, say I, and grab an application form. I could wish that my mother wasn't being quite so enthusiastic about how well it would suit me, though. That always makes me so aware of my own deficiencies, while she's telling me brightly about how she knows I could manage it all. Oh well. Talk to knowledgeable person and work on CV tomorrow.
Actually finished some writing today, which cheers me up immensely. Also sorted through doujinshi and manga and stacked/bagged/tagged some of them for the Bring & Buy stall for Minamicon. Waste not, etc. Might as well see if I can turn a few pounds for those one-offs which were tried and then discarded. (And it's so hard to be sure of a doujinshi from its cover, she says, and hopes guiltily that anyone who buys the stuff she's putting on the stall doesn't have too similar a reaction on opening the bags to read.)

"I am listening. What are your principles?"
"To seek understanding before taking action, yet to trust my instincts when action is called for. Never to avoid danger from fear, never to seek out danger for its own sake. Never to conform to fashion from fear of eccentricity, never to be eccentric from fear of conformity. To preserve the honor of my name and House, and to cherish the memory of the Empire. To always care for my horse, my lackey, and my equipage as if they were part of my own body. To hold myself to higher standards of conduct than I hold another. To never strike without cause, and when there is cause, to strike for the heart. To respect, love, and obey those whom the gods have made my masters, for their sake when deserved, for my sake should my masters be unworthy, and for the sake of duty at all times. To be loyal to my House, my family, my name, and the principles of the Empire."
