On the positive side, investigating that job makes it clear that it's actually about 60-70% project management and organisation, rather than being mostly analytical. (So why the hell call it an "Analyst" post, hm? Feh.) So have put form on one side and will not bother.

On the other hand, it's made me think about the possibility of seriously looking for another job, rather than just red-queen-racing with my current position(s). (I spend half the week doing analysis and half the week doing clinical coding. Naturally, both sides of my job are under the impression that they have priority in a crunch situation.) So. Time to actually start moving. (Though probably not to the States. I have almost 10 years experience in the NHS by now; I doubt it would translate very well.)

I don't dislike my current jobs, complaining aside, but -- there comes a point when you feel you could do better for yourself. I'm beginning to reach that point.

Mm. Let's see. There is a pile of Cardiothoracic work to be done. I had booked Friday off to attend Minamicon (local anime convention), which starts at 2pm. I can see what I'm going to be doing Friday morning, I can see it very clearly. My mother was not happy, but as I pointed out, "Pot, kettle, black."

I know where I get my habits from.

'Analyst' doesn't mean 'does analytical work' it means 'looks at what's going on and makes recommendations to management on what everyone else should be doing'. Analysts are also the ones everyone looks at when there's a new problem no one knows how to handle. It's almost always a senior position and pays better.

good luck,

Good luck!! I finally got notice from my new boss that I am, indeed, officially transfering to my new position at the end of the month. Whew.

I so know the feeling of "they're so busy doing what they need to do that I don't have the room to grow myself..." and wanting to go elsewhere. New starts are a little scary, but they're also *so* nice for getting a new perspective on self and life...

So, good luck and happy hunting!

I'll second that; I transferred from my old department to a new one within the same company about six months ago, and it's made a world of difference.

Frankly, I come from the "give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves" school of professional executioners, but I find there just isn't enough rope. :)
