It is canon that Nanao runs the Agony Column (at least, that's how I'm understanding the translation) of the shinigami newspaper. I'm also very amused that it's very popular with male readers. (I have always had certain suspicions about who reads agony columns.)
(A kind soul has put up a lot of translations regarding the Captains and Vice-Captains from the Bleach Data Book: I'm currently reading Nanao's on http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=258943&page=5, but the whole thread is full of stuff.)
