Have just received the copy-edits for book 3. Something to get started on this weekend...

Irene could guess the chain of logic in Qing Song’s mind at the moment. It was a logical little short-circuit which started with only someone important would dare to treat a dragon without proper respect, and continued to such a person must be worthy of a dragon’s respect, and went round in a nice little self-confirming circle. Irene was a Librarian who knew about dragons, but she treated him with a lack of proper respect. Ergo, Irene was a powerful and important Librarian who deserved Qing Song’s respect. The only problem with this logic was that it all depended on the person – namely, Irene – not being a fake in the first place. Like all good cons, it depended on the victim making a fundamental misapprehension and then building on it. And if Qing Song ever got round to questioning his first unspoken assumption that of course nobody would ever dare lie to me...
