Interesting comparisons.
While rereading an old Chalet School book lately -- school story from about 30-40 years ago -- a character's sister is crippled (due to an accident) and the character is feeling rather sulky about all the attention that her sister gets, and the fact that she herself has been sent off to boarding school. One of the series' main characters has a Bracing Talk with her, makes her realise how fortunate she is to not be crippled as her sister is, and sends her off with a resolution to be more understanding, etc.
Compare Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, where the hero's brother is crippled in the real world, but able to run round in the fantasy world they're currently in. He doesn't want to go back to the real world, and says that back in the real world his brother had everything while he was just a cripple. The hero replies that he didn't have everything; that he always had to put all his interests to one side while his crippled brother got all the attention. Crippled brother admits that this is a strong argument, and apologises for _his_ selfishness. (Hero also believes that brother will still be able to walk when they return to the real world, to be fair.)
Interesting contrast. I'm considering what to make of it.

If you ever do get a PS2, FFX is an awesome game. It's just outright awesome. Sure, it's not the "worldwide Playstation seller" that FF7 was back in the day, but it's still just outright great. However, FFX-2 takes some really neat characters, and sucks the life right out of them with a suspicious slurping noise.
I heard some kind of rumour about a FF7 remake...

Date: 2004-07-14 12:04 pm (UTC)FFX is good, but I'm a sprite-gamer, and I really don't care for the motion-capture video and real-life look of FFX and subsequent games. I want my cartoon games to look cartoony, darnit!

Date: 2004-07-14 05:50 pm (UTC)Gen, I have a copy of Final Fantasy 7 (for the PC) still kicking around -- it's a bit long in the tooth as games go, but has a (deserved) reputation as one of the best in the series.
I am happy to send it to you on one condition. NO VINCENT VALENTINE FANFIC!! (Trust me, I am thinking only of you ;) )
ps. FF X-2 makes me laugh! I love the guy who is trying to put on a play so much :) And the stupid woman who makes you give her a massage. I think it just rocks totally, which isn't necessarily good, but gave me my money's worth for sure.
