flying fox
Sep. 20th, 2004 01:08 amTried out a new Lush shower gel today, Flying Fox. All honey and jasmine; probably too sweet for everyday use, but nice for the odd change.
Put off my ironing till tomorrow. I expect to regret this tomorrow.
Currently listening to Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. Out of curiosity, how many people reading this have heard (a decent version of) it, and what did you think of it as a work?

The Man In The Golden Mask
[...]
The first man waved to the other four;
He held aside the tavern door,
And just as softly drew it closed.
He saw a man who deeply dozed
Upon the table, limbs askew,
No weapon held in open view.
He said, "A valiant man, no doubt,
But he has fought himself quite out;
The fish is landed, plain to see,
Gold should not come so easily."
The man sat up and gave a yawn.
"You have it right," said D'Artagnan,
And in one instant he was on
His feet, his rapier fully drawn;
"Gold is too dear for such a gift.
It wants some labor. Start the shift."
The bravos drew their rapiers, and ducked;
D'Artagnan gave example to instruct:
"Watch close, for this is how a pass is held.
Look well, Sir Ass, and Monsieur Quelque-Chose;
But care that you do not observe too close,
For he who thrusts too soon is soonest felled."
And it was done as he had prophesied;
A henchman shouted, drove his blade, and caught
Eight inches of Toledo in his side.
