Acquired most of birthday present for mother, and the rest of it is on order from amazon. Hopefully she'll enjoy it. Fingers crossed.

(I believe pheasant is on the menu for tomorrow. How convenient it is to have a local butcher.)

Still have cold. Cold is not improving. However, it has not yet got drastically worse, and I was healthy enough to be able to spend a few hours in town this afternoon -- look, don't mention epidemics and infections and vectors, I'm trying not to feel too guilty -- so it's not that bad yet. If it must get bad, let it get bad tomorrow, and let me be healthy enough for work on Monday.

Not that I'm that twitchy about missing work due to general illness, but it looks a little shabby to be taking sick leave directly after getting back from a holiday. And I have several queries open which need sorting out.

Local gaming shop was disposing of a few books from the Scarred Lands line, due to a combination of them having been on the shelves for a while, and White Wolf declaring that the line was going to be finished. Oh well. A pity, as they're good books and it's a good line. So I added them to my own collection. Also picked up the Traitor's Manual for Paranoia, which is somewhat overpriced at fifteen pounds for a slender volume, but which seems to be quality writing.

Also picked up a collected Machen, including his The White People story. Machen's very good in some respects, and I will cheerfully borrow/steal from him when trying to catch a certain mood.

No, it was from Chaosium; their second Machen collection, The White People and other stories.
