Today's meeting went fairly well. The real test of my minute-taking will be to see if I can compile and write up said minutes on Wednesday or Thursday after all this awayday business is over. We shall see.

Got home at about 6.15pm (having left home approx 7.40am) to find a friend had dropped round to check the mouse on my computer because I'd mentioned some stiffness in clicking last week. He stayed for a chat and didn't leave till around 7pm. I like my friends, but I am not sure how much I like them when they are sitting round and talking computer talk at me just after I've got home after a long day and desperate to take my contact lenses out and my good work trousers off. Especially on a Monday and after a long meeting.

Was looking at Pekingese online stuff earlier. Why? Hm. Not sure. Perhaps having a Barbara Hambly flashback, given that I'm rereading some of her Benjamin Janvier stuff. (See Bride of the Rat God for why this might be the case.) Perhaps I was partly remembering the pair that my uncle and his wife used to have, who were incredibly sweet. Hrm. The idea of a pet (when I have my own property, and not rented property at that) is not unpleasant, but given that I am a lazy person, it had probably better be something that doesn't take a lot of looking after -- which a Peke would. Plus, they're expensive. But very sweet.

(It'd probably be better to go to an animal shelter/rescue place in any case . . . no, calm down, first we need to move to Leeds, then we need a permanent place of residence, then maybe we consider all this. Right.)

Sorry. Not sure why my mind is running on these tracks tonight.

In other news, Hevn will be wearing a seven-pointed headscarf (tignon) when next she shows up in the GetBackers thing I'm writing. Heh.

[...]

Long was the way that fate them bore,
O'er stony mountains cold and grey,
Through halls of iron and darkling door,
And woods of nightshade morrowless.
The Sundering Seas between them lay,
And yet at last they met once more,
And long ago they passed away
In the forest singing sorrowless.

Huh. If "Sit there and look at the pretty pictures / play Minesweeper / twiddle thumbs / punt while I go take off clothes from hell" is improper behavior, I'm headed for etiquette hell. Repeat sinner.

no, calm down, first we need to move to Leeds

-I'm- already excited about it, and I'm not even the one moving. Woo!

Next time, just poison the friend :)

(Just think, if you had a dog, you could probably train it to bark a lot or play dead when you wanted an excuse to turf people out of the house!)

By the way, I probably need to go up to town sometime to sort out Xmas shopping -- would you be interested in meeting for a drink sometime?

I love the Benjamin Janvier series. I think I fell off at about book five -- I know I have 4 at home and another was coming out when I bought the fourth. I'm usually not a mystery reader, but something about the setting and time period draws me back over and over. I've been interested in voudoun and old New Orleans for several years (due to playing a MUSH White Wolf world set there, I'm afraid). I didn't know anyone else had ever even heard of these books. :)

I love them, too. I just don't get to a decent bookstore enough, darnit. Still, Hambly's going to be Arisia's GoH, so there should be plenty of Hambly books to pick up in January! Yay!

Pekes are so cute! And snorty! And fluffy! And protective of their territory (bark! bark! bark!) And little teeny-tiny and so gosh-darn cute you could just scream! Ahem.

I know that the breed is also prone to breathing problems and eye problems because of the smooshed sort of skull they breed them with... but they're so still idgy-widgy snuggly-wuggly... just like a fluffy plush toy that's somehow come to life.

Okay. I'll stop. Koji would be beside himself with jealousy.
