incandescensLJ just ate one set of complaints. I will take this as a polite comment by the universe at large, and merely note that I hate writing game mechanics, even if I did train as a statistician. My brain just doesn't seem to work that way.

Read the manual. Don't assume that you can use the provided utilities or configure your own setting without a perfect understanding of the system. Read the manual. Don't use a command which you don't know the exact effects of. Not even the HELP command. Read the manual. You've probably already irrepairably damaged some of the files and made it impossible for the system to work properly. So let go of the keyboard and READ THE MANUAL, for pity's sake.
