let in the light
Nov. 28th, 2002 12:26 amAn image which you find in different places and differing ways, but one which always resonates for me, is when someone walks up to a pair of double doors -- it has to be double doors, it doesn't work as well with a single one -- and pushes them outwards or inwards, and the light comes striking into the dark room, casting a shadow behind the opener if she's thrusting the doors outwards, or in front of her and into the room ahead of her if she's opening them inwards.
The shape of the shadow is, of course, open to the author for little symbolic touches.
I am uncertain why this particular image is on my mind tonight. If it wants to be involved in something that I'm writing, I hope that it will let me know the required associations soon enough.

As late as 1860 chess historian Duncan Forbes announced, based on no discernible evidence whatsoever, that chess was 5,000 years old and derived from ancient Sanskrit wisdom. That's the kind of thinking we need more of in our roleplaying games, if you ask me. (Kenneth Hite)
