The Arrancar didn't talk much about where they'd come from or what they'd been when they were alive. From time to time, they exchanged brief comments or casual references and left it at that.

Ulquiorra said least of all. He knew what mattered; unquestioning obedience, eternal service. He remembered a few fragments of kneeling loyalty, desperation to protect, a will to do anything, anything to carry out his master's will.

He remembered the desert sky, cloudless, reaching to the horizon as he soared into it; he remembered the burst of light that carried him upwards and outwards into the silence.
