"No, Mr von Karma, I'm afraid Yuuko-san is not available."

"No, Mr von Karma, I'm afraid she said that she had urgent business to drink -- um, to handle."

"Yes, Mr von Karma, she did remember you had an appointment, and she said that she'd left something for you."

"Yes, Mr von Karma, here it is. This lamp. She said that if you did find an honest man, please would you not murder him with it, not even defense attorneys."

". . . no, Mr von Karma, I have absolutely no idea what she meant. None at all. Really. Please put me down now?"

(Note: the Greek philosopher Diogenes, among other things, is said to have walked through the streets carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for an honest man.)

Ah, sorry. I was seeing von Karma's wish as being "to find an honest man", thus the Diogenes comparison, and Yuuko's message about "don't kill them", as being a reference to what he'd probably do if he ever did.

Oh no, I got that bit. It's just-- how can a lamp help you find an honest man? And why would von Karma want to kill him? (Although I suspect I don't get that last bit because I've never played Phoenix Wright.)

The lamp is a reference to Diogenes (see the bottom of the post). And von Karma is a prosecutor in the Phoenix Wright game who has always managed (except for once) to prove the suspect guilty. And in that case he ended up murdering the defense lawyer...

I think it was more metaphorical than anything else. "I am looking for an honest man!" (waves lantern around)
