twenty years ago
Jul. 31st, 2013 02:26 amWhile going through my card wallet (or whatever you're supposed to call that thing) and tidying up/out some of the tatty old things that I no longer use, or which are no longer valid, I came across a student union card of mine from 1993-94.
... all right, the contact lenses, the use of eyeshadow and blusher and lipstick (things to experiment with at university, as the bonus side is that your parents never see the experimental stage and therefore won't still be commenting on it twenty years later), and the generally thinner face do make an impression, but so does the fact that the photobooth was apparently having one of its rare "good moments" when its bleaching your face with the flash actually adds to the picture rather than detracting from it.
I should have sent it in as an "author's photo". Nobody would ever recognise me. :)

‘Anyway, still a bit of a waste of time for us.’
‘We had to be sure,’ said Nightingale. ‘And it does you good to get out into the countryside.’
‘Oh yeah,’ I said. ‘Nothing like a day trip to a crime scene. This can’t be the first time you’ve investigated a serial killer.’
‘If that’s what he is,’ said Nightingale.
‘If he is then he can’t have been your first,’ I said.
‘Unfortunately true,’ said Nightingale. ‘Although I’ve never been the one in charge.’
‘Were any of the famous ones supernatural?’ I asked, thinking it would explain a great deal.
‘Had they been supernatural,’ said Nightingale, ‘we’d have ensured that they were not famous.’
