how come I must know
Mar. 13th, 2004 11:55 pmSuffering from mental overload, the result of watching too much anime in a short space of time. Not exactly unpleasant, but the head is full of images. A good thing that I finished off with the best one. (A clue. Paper. Lots of paper.)
Masquerade was good. Auction was okay. Dealers' room was well-stocked. I am poorer.
Thoughts:
Read Or Die, the tv series (not the OVA, which is separate though also splendid) is definitely worth investigating. A bit slow to start and fluffy at the beginning, but the end was _really_ worth it. (We saw episodes 1-2, episode 7 (the Bush one -- no, not that Bush), and the end, episodes 12-13. Incidentally, if I had to pick a signature character from that series, it would be the middle sister Maggie; anyone who goes into traumatised shock over not having a book to curl up with at night is clearly my spiritual twin.
Peacemaker Kurogane: interesting dichotomy between cute and gory. I see where the yaoi fangirls are coming from. But, mm. Less interesting to those who don't know the history on which it is loosely based. Some of the other people in the room left with a rather "hmm" attitude. I know who Okita Soushi was, but why should they?
Saint Beast: and I thought Weiss Kreuz was bad. This is worse, and for all the same reasons. Cookie-cutter, cookie-cutter.

Date: 2004-03-14 01:20 am (UTC)Oh heavens no they're not bad for the same reasons! Saint Beast makes Weiss look like high art, poorly characterized and plotted as the latter may be. ^_^ SB is easily the most attractive yet equally atrocious anime I've ever seen. I'm not one to defend Weiss (much as I adore it, and you know I do), but really, SB just plain takes the cake for pointless, plotless, predictable prettiness. By far. Which didn't stop me from watching the first four eps and downloading the rest (and buying the artbook -- I did say pretty, ne?), much to my chagrin.

Date: 2004-03-14 02:13 am (UTC)Saint Beast does take the cake. I never felt so pandered to before outside of Weiss. Even with the kewl seiyuu voices, I just couldn't take it. It's a spin-off of a girl-harem show "Angel's Tail", funnily enough.
