The problem with having bought a jar of banoffee spread is that one then has the urge to eat the banoffee spread. On buttered bread. Or buttered toast.

Oddly quiet at work today, as one coworker was off ill and another was off in America. Stepped into the shop just a few doors along -- it's a fabric and craft shop, with everything from curtain-type to clothes-type fabrics -- and was seized by the urge to buy everything and learn how to sew. Not to mention knit. Fortunately I controlled myself.

I wonder what Winchester will be like at Christmas? It already has a strong charity market/stall presence a couple of times a week, and the odd musician playing quite decently in the streets. (Probably from the local 6th form college or nearby university, making some small change from their music studies.) It should be rather fun.

Last Poems: XI

Yonder see the morning blink:
The sun is up, and up must I,
To wash and dress and eat and drink
And look at things and talk and think
And work, and God knows why.

Oh often have I washed and dressed
And what's to show for all my pain?
Let me lie abed and rest:
Ten thousand times I've done my best
And all's to do again.

What is banoffee spread? And can it be acquired in the US?

I was compelled to look this up, too. This page has directions for how to make this goo at the bottom. It's condensed milk, cream, sugar, and powdered instant coffee (like Nescafe or Chase & Sanborn, I'm guessing) on top of bananas. Ummm, I dunno about this . . .

Ignore people who eat peanut butter straight from the jar. ^^;

Sewing isn't that difficult, btw. And if you pick it up when you're older, there's must less blood involved.

I worship that poem. I want to write it on the walls of my office with permanent magic marker. I want to get it tattooed on my forehead.

Three cheers for the thought of staying in bed! This poem also points out the meaninglessness of a lot of our employment--we aren't necessarily doing anything concrete or necessary; instead, a lot of us spend much of our time just pushing pieces of paper around.

How odd. I love the poem too but not because it's about the meaninglesness of work. (My work is very meaningful FWIW. It frees *other* people to go push pieces of paper while I get to socialize the next generation.) No, I like it because it's about the meaninglessness of life. What you do may be fun and may even be important but that doesn't make it any the less pointless.

Heh. I guess I should know better than to make a posting on one of those days when I feel like I do today, i.e. ready to bite anything and everything.

I've often thought it would be cool to be able to make your own clothes. Then I remember what happened in sewing lessons at school (I made the world's most hideous skirt).

Good thing you didn't have me with you on the trip. :)

I got hooked on sewing when I managed to make this beautiful, draped to the knees Matron-of-Honor dress with a gorgeous green wool knit fabric. It was beautiful and would have cost me five times as much to buy. Modern patterns are astonishing things, with nearly complete instructions on how to custom fit the pattern to my rather odd body.

And you already know my fascintation with knitting, taking the wool still warm from the sheep... :) I still love it, especially with regards to children's clothing as it's so quick and rewarding. And Jet goes around saying, "I want my yarn socks!" instead of his normal socks. *grin*
