I've been feeling pettish all day, frankly. The server going down mid-morning (and then coming back up half an hour later, so one couldn't even go off to lunch with a justifiable-sounding "can't do any work"). A bit of hot-desking in the afternoon. A ton of work.

Die Zauberflote is helping. It is a genuinely lovely piece of music.

Okay, I've also just ordered some CDs from French amazon -- two Mylene Farmer, one Tristan et Isolde musical that looked interesting, and a new copy of the complete Notre-Dame de Paris, since my old copy seemed to have a couple of scratches on it . . . so that has doubtless helped.

My parents are off to China for a fortnight tomorrow; naturally, we're keeping an eye on the flooding situation. I hope that things go smoothly. In their absence, I will naturally engage in wild orgies and scandalize the neighbourhood with my depravity. Alternatively, I'll eat a lot of stirfry and stay up too late reading/writing.

OTOH, if I'm really lucky, my forthcoming (on order) DVDs of Fruits Basket and Hellsing will arrive here before my parents get back, leaving me with uncompromised access to the television during supper. And we all know where _that_ leads to.

Okay, that's not totally fair to my parents. They don't mind me showing them chunks of anime as long as it's good stuff and I don't do it too often. I've shown them (bits or all) of Utena, Yami no Matsuei, Cowboy Bebop, Castle Cagliostro, Read Or Die, and others, and they generally appreciated it. I suspect my mother would even enjoy lightweight stuff on occasion, though probably my father wouldn't.

This just leads to my big thesis of "you need to catch the right person with the right thing at the right moment". One of my coworkers has _finally_ watched Lord of the Rings, and enjoyed it. (Admittedly her most direct attention was on the scenes with horses in, as she is a keen rider, but she commented that those were very well done, so no waste there.) I've got friends into anime, into manga, into Harry Potter, into Lord of the Rings, and even into the French Notre-Dame de Paris musical. You just need to catch the right person with the right thing at the right time.

Okay, okay, so I'm not going to try to talk any of them into investigating yaoi any time soon. There are limits. ;)

At least you parents try. *sigh* mine walk out of the room if they see anime playing. They'd not even appreciate something like "Grave of the Fireflies," i bet.. *grumbles*

Oh, btw: the code for the "ö" in "Zauberflöte" is alt+0246

And here was me hoping for orgies and scandalization :(
